Author Sweets for memoir writers

A memoir is made of scenes from a life, and the hard part is choosing and arranging them. Author Sweets gives those scenes a place, keeps the people and places straight, and keeps the draft yours.

What you get

A memoir structure to start from
The memoir structure lays out chapters that move between the life then and the writer now, each with a scene that says what it is for. Rename, reorder or delete any of them; the shape is a start, not a rule. The structures, beat by beat
The people and places, by name
A page for each person and each place, with notes and a picture, and the list of scenes they appear in. The Plot grid shows which chapters each person is in, so you can see who disappears halfway through.
Private by design
No AI inside, nothing of yours used for training, and a style check that runs on your device without sending the text anywhere. Download every book as a file at any time, and delete the account in one step. The privacy notice, in plain words
Hear it in your own voice
Read this scene aloud reads the open scene with the voices on your device, sentence by sentence, which catches what the eye skips in a passage you have read fifty times.
Share it with the people in it first
A read-only link opens in any browser with no account. Readers can leave comments in the margin and answer up to three questions at the end of each chapter, and you can see how far each one got.
A book you can hold
Export to PDF for print with a title page, dedication and chapter styles, to EPUB for e-readers, or to Word for an editor. Each finished PDF shows its page count, and the readiness list says when a paperback is too short for print. Formatting for print and ebook

The path a book takes

  1. Gather the scenes. Write each memory as a scene, in any order, with a line of synopsis on its card. The order comes later.
  2. Arrange them. Drag the scenes between chapters on the Outline, or start from the memoir structure and fill its then-and-now shape.
  3. Check the people and places. Each page lists where its person or place appears, so a name spelled two ways or a town moved by accident shows up.
  4. Read it aloud and revise. Save a version first; the compare shows exactly what changed.
  5. Share with the family and a few readers. A link each, comments in the margin, and the same three questions for everyone.
  6. Print or publish. PDF for the printer, EPUB for the stores, Word for an editor, all from the same book.
