Sweet Fifty: write 50,000 words this November
Sweet Fifty is the Author Sweets November novel challenge: 50,000 words of a new draft between 1 and 30 November, counted for you across every book you write in, with a finisher badge at the end. It is free on every plan, Free included.
The rules
- Write 50,000 words between the first and the last day of November. The days are counted in UTC, the same day the rest of the app uses for streaks and daily goals.
- Any book counts, and more than one book counts together: a novel, two novellas, or a novel and the short stories you wrote when it stalled.
- Join any time before 30 November. Words you wrote earlier in the month still count, because they are already in the daily counts.
- There is nothing to submit and nothing to prove. Your manuscript stays private; only the total is counted, on your account.
- Leave before 1 November if you change your mind; after that, the card just stays.
What counts
The challenge counts the words you add in the editor each day, net of what you cut, the same count your daily goal and streak use. Importing a Word file, a Scrivener project or an EPUB, duplicating a book or opening the sample book moves your book total but is not writing, so it does not count toward the challenge. Deleting a whole scene does not take words off; cutting a paragraph does, which is why the number is the words you wrote and kept.
The finisher badge
The day your November words reach 50,000, the challenge card in your Library says so and a finisher badge with the year appears on it and under Challenges in Account. It stays there after November, one badge for each year you finish.
The pace
50,000 words over thirty days is 1,667 a day with no days off. The card shows the day of the month, how far you are from an even pace, and the words a day from today that still finish on 30 November, so a missed weekend becomes a number rather than a reason to stop. The word goal calculator works out a plan with days off, and the guide to a novel in a month covers the week before, falling behind and day thirty-one.
