Our philosophy

What we believe about writing tools

Seven beliefs shape every screen of Author Sweets. Each one comes with what it means in the product today, so you can hold us to it.

  1. The writer comes first

A book is written one sitting at a time, often in the gaps of a busy life. The tool’s job is to get you back to the page quickly and then stay out of the way.

    In practice

    • Continue writing opens the scene you were in, and the Today line shows the words written today across every book.
    • Plan, Versions, Share and Publish are tabs beside the manuscript: one click away when you need them, out of sight when you do not.
    • Ctrl+K goes straight to any scene, chapter, character or screen by name.
  2. Calm tools, not noisy ones

Writing needs quiet. We would rather build fewer, better tools than fill the screen with badges, pop-ups and reasons to look away.

    In practice

    • There is no analytics or advertising tracking on the site, and we set no cookies of our own.
    • We do not send marketing email. The messages we send are receipts, security notices and changes to the terms.
    • The style check and read aloud run on your device and send nothing anywhere.
  3. Your words are yours

You own everything you write, upload or import, and you should be able to take it with you, or take it away, whenever you choose.

    In practice

    • The terms transfer no part of your copyright to us, and we claim no rights in your book. Your work stays yours.
    • Download my data and Delete account are on the Account page, on every plan, and you can use them without asking anyone.
    • Markdown, plain text and web page exports work on every plan, and nothing is deleted when a paid plan ends.
  4. Your writing never trains a machine

There is no AI inside Author Sweets today. Nothing rewrites, summarises or suggests, and every word on the page is one you typed.

    In practice

    • Your manuscripts will never be used to train an AI model, ours or anyone else’s, and we will not let any company we work with do so.
    • If AI features ever arrive, they will be optional, run only when you start them, and only on the text you choose.
    • This is written into our AI pledge, which the terms of use adopt.
  5. Progress without pressure

Momentum matters, but a book is not a game to be won. We show you how the work is going and leave the pace to you.

    In practice

    • Daily goals, word targets, finish dates and sprints are yours to set, change or ignore.
    • Your streak and a calendar of the days you wrote are there to look back on. There are no points or leaderboards.
    • Our November challenge is something you choose to join, not something you are entered into.
  6. Honest pricing

We charge for the tools that cost us to run and the work that went into them, and we say plainly what you get.

    In practice

    • The free plan has no time limit and asks for no card. Prices include any applicable tax, so the price shown is the total you pay.
    • The pricing page lists only features that are built and working today. A larger plan stays off sale until the features that would justify it are finished.
    • If you are not satisfied with a plan that does not include AI features, ask us within 30 days of a charge and we refund that charge in full, no questions asked. The terms have the full wording.
  7. Built for everyone who writes

A writing studio should work for the way you work: by keyboard, by screen reader, in the dark, on a small phone or with motion turned down.

    In practice

    • Keyboard shortcuts on every screen of the app, and Ctrl+/ lists them all.
    • Light and dark themes, motion that settles down when your device asks for less of it, and a visible focus ring on every control.
    • Every public page is checked against the WCAG 2.1 AA rules with an automated accessibility test.
